Some tips for beginners?

Learn things as you encounter them in your games. Develop pieces towards the center. Before launching attack make sure your king is safe.

Not an expert. With that being said, one of the things I try and focus on in the early game is whether or not I should open or close the position.

So for example if the opponent is delaying castling I try and castle myself as quickly as possible and open up the center even if I will have to sac a pawn to do it. At a beginner level you are not going to win/lose a game because you are ahead/behind a pawn. Activity and aggression seems way more important.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber who helps beginners out :

Here’s some ideas to help you get better.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

-Feel free to ask my question on my live chess livestream Youtube channel, every Sunday from 1-2pm PST.

Thank you all!

If you have the time on your clock, analyze every piece that you have and look out for threats (yes, I know it sounds tedious, but its worth it) to prevent hanging pieces. What I've experienced as a beginner myself is that oftentimes the primary mistake a beginner commits is a piece hang. And generally the more material you have, the better.

Watch chess content

Lauren Goodkind: Does livestreams and beginner content

Chess Geek: Goes through a lot of chess books

Chess Coach Andras: Goes through anything you could possibly want to learn about chess

Chess Vibes: Targets beginner to intermediate players with a variety of content like studies

I would also recommend you check out chess on twitch. Lots of people to watch but I personally love Lichess, John Bartholomew, Lefong Hua, and Chess Coach Andras. You may be a beginner but playing against titled players or anyone better than you is great for learning. You will need an account on Lichess to play these guys but the easiest person to get a game from is Lauren Goodkind when she does her Sunday and Monday streams.
