Uhh.... NOOB needs some help...
There are 2 concepts that will boost lower rated players in my opinion!!
Forcing moves!! Forcing moves are 1) Checks 2) Captures and 3) a threat to check or capture next move. You need to work on seeing all checks and captures for now
Its hard at first, but comes with practice.
Tactics!! You need to learn about basic tactics, and do tactic puzzles. chesstempo.com is my fav site for tactic puzzles.
And third, if you don't already know this, playing fast blitz chess will not help your game much. In fact, it will enforce bad habits in your game more and more! Playing slow, longer games will make you better. Looking over games you play slow, try your hardest, and still lose, will help you learn
Good luck!
I seem to kind of jump around on YouTube based on whatever topic catches my eye. Some explain it better, talk slower, no rapid fire board moves. Some don't
Can anyone recommend some solid teaching channels for beginning/intermediate player?
I'm pretty bad too
I'll send you a friend request in case you are interested in challenging someone at your own level some time.
Gotham Chess on You Tube has some great videos. Pick an opening that you like (French Defense is good) learn some lines and take it from there. Good luck!
There are also a lot of chess.com forums and resources for learning chess players. As long as you are learning something(s) new and implementing them into your chess game, then you'll likely improve over time. Don't take chess too seriously and have fun ![]()
Rating changes A TON so I like to have a learning mindset even more than following exact rating.
Hello! I am overall new to chess, and I just wanted to know what I should do to improve. Currently it seems like I can't win at all (I'm around 300 rating). I know that's really bad xD... Are there any things that I can do to improve this rating to maybe 800? The resources available on chess.com (no membership) are ok (from what i've seen)... I just thought that instead of frying my brain for the next week or so, I could ask for some help
