So, I am doing the puzzles and range anywhere from 1400-1700 depending on how tired I am when I do them. However, my overall rating is consistently under 600. I primarily use the Pirc and Queen’s gambit as my openings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do keep in mind that your Puzzle rating will not match your other ratings since the points in the Puzzle system is very different. Most everyone's puzzle rating is much higher than their rapid or blitz ratings.

I didn’t realize that, thanks. I guess I need to study more. I just keep floating up and down at this low rating.
Any chess skills that you have are irrelevant if you don't pay attention to the game.

I’m trying to play longer games in the tournaments now. The 10 minute timer seems to add an element of pressure that I’m not accustomed to yet.

++ How much time do you spend solving a puzzle? How much time do you spend on a move in a game? The time per move in a game should be longer, as in a game you do not know if there is a tactic for your or your opponent, so you have to assume there is one.

++ Openings are not relevant. Middle game tactics decide games, regardless of opening.

tygxc, I hadn’t considered the time per turn. You are correct. In the puzzles I know there is a solution I just have to find it. I do spend a more time on the puzzles as they are not timed. I need to consider every move I make as if there is a solution to discover. Good advice there, thank you.

That really worked @tygxc, I just won my first tournament game over a 1200+ player. The tactics practice and patience on moving really paid off. I’ve never used so many pins in a game before. I don’t know how to copy a link here, but maybe you can let me know what you think of you have time? I didn’t finish my analysis yet, but apparently made a few errors in the opening.
