I am a beginner, but I do fairly well at puzzles. I also regularly beat bots, some higher rated than me. But I lose big time when I play another person, even if they have a relatively low rating. I don’t know if it’s nerves, or the time constraint, or just a general lack of tactical understanding and recognition in the middle game. Or perhaps is a limited understanding of opening variations.. What would you suggest as a next step for me at this point?

The only ones I'm really familiar with now are the French and Sicilian defense, and the Nimbo-Indian.

The French Defense is great beginner openings.

What line is given you problems?

You should work on stuff that is given you issues.
