The position shown is not checkmate. Did you stalemate the white king? Where it has no moves but is not in check this is a stalemate and is a draw.
Why didn't I win?
okay I think I understand. So if I moved the bishop from h4 to f6 and the queen didn't beat my bishop (very unlikely) it would be checkmate right?

White is to move in your position and it is in fact already a draw. By placing the white king in a stalemate position where it has no moves you create yourself a problem. The white queen can go to h6, g6, f6 or f8 giving check and if you capture it there will be a draw by stalemate. If you don't capture it then it will keep giving check forever and it will eventually be a draw by perpetual check or the 50 move rule.
Hello everybody,
I'm still pretty new to chess. I was just playing a game against the computer and I had a strange situation. As you can see in the picture, I actually checkmate the king but I didn't win.
Instead, I beat the queen a few moves later and there was a draw. Can you explain to me what happened here?
Best Regards,
Max
