Also when playing online I am much more likely to miss checkmates or discovered attacks
Why do I keep losing online?

hey man! i think your problem could be the chess pieces you could change them in the settings!
I have the normal ones, which one do you recommend?

It might be a visual thing. Maybe you just see things better on a physical board than you do in a 2d format. When you say you play higher rated players over the board, are these fide rated players or players you know personally who have a chess.com account with a rating higher than yours? I'm kind of curious.
I definitely don't think the kind of pieces you use has any relevance to your success on the board. Just play chess. Learn from your losses and understand the mistakes you made that caused you to lose and make sure you don't make the same mistakes.

I am personally around 650 on chess.com but OTB I can beat someone that's 1700 on chess.com, multiple times. I find it strange that I am pretty bad online

That is strange. Someone who is 650 on chess.com will get trounced by a 1700+ rated player EVERY time. The difference in chess knowledge between those two rating levels is almost insurmountable. The lower rated player would have to play their absolute best game ever and their higher rated opponent their absolute worst for that to happen once, in my humble opinion. So yes, I agree with you that is very strange. Maybe his rating is inflated or embellished in some way? I have no way of knowing.

Low rated players often play extremely focused over the board due to the pressure of being in person, but more aggressive, wreckless, or even sloppy online. Especially as they might play one or two games OTB, but a string of 20 in a row online. Not sure if this applies to you but ensure you play with full focus and full clock.
As the title suggests, I keep losing when playing chess online. But when playing OTB I win most of the time, even against higher-rated opponents. Why is this happening and what can I do about it?
