Why Do I Suck Still?
great thread...lol... I joined two days ago having just learned via the lessons ...... and I also "suck"..... lol... feels great to say that out loud... part of me feels bad about that and part of me says of course you do stupid ... this is such a complicated challenging game... so since I joined my rating keeps going down as I lose and lose and lose mostly .. a few wins... anyway, I could say lots about types of brains and learning and chess... practical benefits outside of chess to struggling with it, spiritual lessons at least for me .... but for now I will just say to fellow suckees and myself ... patience grasshopper, explore with curiosity learning chess, and all your reactions to it .... best to all from western Massachusetts USA ✌️ 👍 💪🏼 🕺 ☃️
ps - on a practical level... what time do you have it set for ... I first had it set to 10 minutes, now 20 and still run out of time ... I was just ahead by 4 pts and had a cm on the next move as opponent had king behind 3 pawns and my castle was about to cm and time ran out and therefore they won... now that sucks... kidding .. that's lol... over and out...
Back in the days, we used to carve our own steam powered computers in hard wood with our teeth.
Now it's all "Made in China" plastic stuff and all.
What's that supposed to mean?
lol

YAY, I’m halfway there now, and I just figured put how to spell YAY, took me 3 tries!
Don't play blitz and bullet.
50% of the time I struggle to keep my rating up, playing games and losing maybe 10-20 points. Instead, I decided to do lessons or anything but play. When I feel the calmest and most confident, I play then, when I don't feel pressured to play fast.
Have you considered the possibility that chess just isn't for you? Chess is a very hard game, and some people just simply aren't smart enough to keep track of everything going on. Self awareness is very important, and if someone with your IQ can realize they weren't born with the same level of intelligence as the rest of us, that could go a long way. I am going to provide a link below for a game that may be a little more your speed.
Kinda being rude there arent ya?
The brain is made like a negative feedback tool. I don’t mean it was meant to be “negative”, that is just the term. For example, in the field of basket ball, professionals have to watch the game they played on video, over and over. By doing this, the brain is able to analyze its mistakes, and adjust accordingly.
Another example is a computer on a launched missile. It knows it’s target, but in order to reach it, it needs to read its surroundings AKA negative feed back.
One last example of negative feedback is looking in the mirror while you are talking, smiling, and laughing. If there is a part of you that you don’t like (Maybe a unsymmetrical smile) your brain will start to adjust your smile as you continue to look in the mirror.
For chess, I practiced against the computer, and every time I made a big mistake, I go back 5 to 8 moves, then play it forward, and I would do this 3 times.
Progress is reflecting on our mistakes. So if we don’t don’t the time to do that, it’s hard to move forward with success.
Another tip that might help some, as it has really helped me is, to pay attention to my emotions when I play. I tend to get excited and anxious to play the next move most of the time, however, when I take the time to breath and disconnect from the board for 30 seconds or so, I no longer become impatient, and I am able to wait, and make the better move. It also helps to know when your in “the mood” to play chess. If you start getting frustrated take a break!
Hope this helps
