Why doesn't the rook take mine?

I'm at this point in the game. Hint advised me to move my rook as shown as last move. Why didn't the bot simply capture my rook with it's rook? Instead, the king moves. Am I missing something obvious? Bot is advanced, rated 1800.

It could have.

After 1. ... Rxd8 you would have c7+, getting the rook back and a queen in the process

Ah, think I understand thanks. I move my pawn to c7. His king has to move. I take his rook and promote to queen. Nice!

Managed to export the game, upoload to Analysis, and try the moves. Very cool. Wish I had the dosh for premium. One day..

I don't get it. You can use Analysis without premium.

#5 Without premium, you have to individually look at every turn and see the best moves, sometimes without easily knowing why they are the best. Full review with advantage graph and move explanations is limited to 1 per day.

Game Review is bad. Move explanations are complete nonsense more often than not. You are much better off doing the work yourself... not to mention that it will also work wonders for your chess improvement.
