Look at this game:

https://www.chess.com/game/live/122093126248?username=dm_pen_0315

It' s a 10 minute game. On move 4, you spent 3 seconds on a move that may lose a pawn. You certainly didn't calculate if you can win it back or not.

On move 6, you spent 1 second to lose another pawn. On move 7, you spent 2 seconds and lost your queen.

I hope you spot a pattern here.

Don't make random moves. Use your time and think.

Kaeldorn

Playing random moves will forcefully produce, some day, a perfect game. Out of an infinite number of games.

So, all you need is to be patient.

And immortal.

Move even faster, so that once you've dropped a piece you have more time to try to win it back?

Be patient. Often chess ratings spurt and then stop. I went up from 1400 to 1600 in a month, then got stuck there for half a year. Now I'm 1800.

For me, I was 900 for a few minutes then became less than 900 again...

Dear DM_Pen_0315,

I'm a certified, full-time chess coach, so I hope I can help you. happy.png Everybody is different, so that's why there isn't only one given way to learn and improve.

First of all, you have to discover your biggest weaknesses in the game and start working on them. The most effective way for that is analyzing your own games. There is a built-in engine on chess.com which can show you if a move is good or bad but the only problem is that it can't explain to you the plans, ideas behind the moves, so you won't know why it is so good or bad.

In my opinion, chess has 4 main territories (openings, strategies, tactics/combinations and endgames) and if you want to improve efficiently, you should improve all of these skills almost at the same time. That's what my training program is based on. My students really like it because the lessons are not boring (because we talk about more than one areas within one lesson) and they feel the improvement on the longer run. Of course, there are always ups and downs but this is completely normal in everyone's career. happy.png

If you would like to learn more about chess, you can take private lessons from me (you find the details on my profile) or you can visit my Patreon channel (www.patreon.com/Bgabor91), where you can learn about every kind of topics (openings, strategies, tactics, endgames, game analysis). There are already around 15 hours of educational videos uploaded on the channel and I'm planning to upload at least 4 new videos per week, so you can get 4-6 hours of educational contents every month. I also upload daily puzzles in 4 levels every day which are available with a FREE subscription.

I hope this is helpful for you. Good luck with your games! happy.png

If you want to improve at chess, it’s important to be patient and focused. That way, you will think. Another tip is to not to worry too much much about the time you have if you are in a 30 min rapid game. Because if you do, you will stop thinking and probably hang blunder or hang pieces

Playing random moves can be helpful if you play exclusively blitz and are already an accomplished player (2200), however it takes too long to improve that way, so you need to supplement that with analyzing your losses with a coach, going over master games to learn general principles, and playing games with longer time controls so you have time to think. You would also need to study theory, the endgame, and common middle game plans. It’s a lot of work but chess is not for the feint of heart.
TheMachine0057
You would also have to study tactics daily, the right way.

There is no way to improve at chess. If your mother has not already shown you chess puzzles while in the womb, it's too late for you to ever get good at this game.
