Why is this happening?

Day 1: Increased +35 elo

Day 2: Increased +20 elo

Day 3: Increased 0 elo (draw)

Day 4: Did not play chess

Day 5: Lost -35 elo

If I don’t play chess for one day, my performance goes down. How should I avoid that?

Please give my some tips Chess friendsfrustrated.png

Ratings normally fluctuate for everyone.  There is no way to avoid it, unless you stop playing.

there was time when i could drop 100 elo one day and gain it another.

part of the game.

It took me a life time to get to my rating. You are looking at 5 days. Rating fluctuations from day to day don't matter. You're too focused on rating while your focus should either be on improving and/or just having fun.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber based in California:

Everybody has their ups and downs in chess.  Remember to have fun!

Anyway, here’s some ideas to help you get better.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

I also offer 500 two-choice puzzles on my website: https://www.chessbylauren.com/two-choice-puzzles.php

I hope that this helps.

doesnt it use glicko 2 or glicko 1

I thought so. But no one ever says, "I lost 100 Glicko in a month!" for some reason.

Then don't have a day when you don't play chess.

But seriously, remember the old adage "Form is temporary but class is permanent."  Don't take a bad day as being usual.

Sure, hit me up.

You'll annihilate me.

You can't lose rating points out of not playing.

It looks so because of time zones.

You played some game(s) that were for you that one day, but chess.com count these for an other day cos of time zones.

This is the only possible explaination to me.

I don't think he meant that his rating went down after not playing.

I think he meant that he did not play on Day 4, then he played on Day 5 and his rating went down because he played worse due to not playing for a day.

Obviously though there are any number of other possible reasons for his rating drop besides the fact that he didn't play for a day.

Your reason is completely right! Once I come in form, if I don’t play daily idk why, I become bad!

And it takes around 2-3 weeks to get me in form after sooooooooooo much of preparation etc

Not to be rude, but this a reason to stop playing chess. If you don´t enjoy it or don´t have the motivation to keep playing, stop. If you do sometimes like chess, just take a break until you feel like playing again.

I do want to keep playing. I’m just frustrated due to inconsistency. Sorry I’m not as successful as you are.

I would say maybe play different time controls as that could help reignite your chess motivation...
