Why Rapid is More Preferred for Beginners

Well, so, you saw the topic name. I will show you on why Rapid games are more developable and takes practice for beginners. 1. Rapid has longer time control (8-25 minutes) that help beginners think longer and better, another one is classical (25 minutes-), so Blitz has lesser time, which requires faster thinking, but beginners are weak in chess, and does not fully know the strategies in chess, Bullet has shorter time, so it is impossible for any beginners to win. 2. Rapid offers a long game, which helps beginners to learns defenses and key squares for attacking, while Blitz can be a time control to make endgames as well, but requires faster moving. And Lastly, 3. Rapid has an advantage for beginners to win. Why? Well Rapid, same in 1, it helps beginners to think longer, not only that, you can win Rapid because, if you are a beginner, chess.com directs you to a game same with beginners, so this longer thinking game can help beginnets to analyze their position. And that's all I'm making these posts because to celebrate my 5th year in playing chess, my topic is For Beginners because so I can help other beginners too.

I agree, I started my chess journey on rapid and I'm still playing rapid to practice nice and quick calculations. Helps with practicing openings too.

Thanks bro... enjoy

I agree. Rapid is also good if you get distracted, you have some time to waste if you need to.

I play rapid becuase I get easily distracted (youtube different tab etc) so it means I'm less likely to time out xD

I visited your accounts and found high Rapid rating, enjoy guys...

If anyone wants to improve, it is better to play slow time controls. This gives you time to think, remember lessons, and apply what you have learned.

Children sometimes fall into the trap of only playing bullet or blitz. It may be fun to play many games at fast time controls. But the same amount of time spent reading and thinking about chess will actually help a player improve more.

I have started to grind bullet and i m crazy at it! It improves my intuition

a national MASTER, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

VaxMestappen

ngl i prefer 3+2 as people in rapid take so long to move sometimes

#10 well duh! They’re thinking and improving their chess!

Slow time controls help you improve your chess skills , fast doesn’t. No question

Rapid is a nice middle ground of fitting games in to a daily schedule and not being rushed like blitz.

Blitz and Bullet require fast reactions, which can lead to bad habits like making random moves without calculation.

Pure prejudice. I started by playing Bullet and Blitz. In Bullet, since I barely knew anything about chess, I played random moves, but that way, I practiced speed.

Over time, my speed became greater than my playing quality lol, but that's the price I had to pay to learn that way .

As a Chilean master told me, if you're good at 5/0 and specialize in it, then you won't have any trouble in 2-hour games.

Besides, if you play and study Blitz, you learn faster playing slow games, you learn slower hehe.

This whole story is very believable. Oh wait.

What is not believable is coming with the mantra that beginners have to play slow games to improve their chess.

I’ve been hearing that lie for too long, and I’m tired of it because I didn’t leave the amateur world by playing slow games, quite the opposite.

Nobody has ever reached your level just by playing blitz and bullet. Neither did you. It's completely impossible. Ridiculous to even talk about it.

BlippiMacoy

Jcidus, your move, said, rapid is slow, learn slower, is literally wrong

How?

Because rapid helps to learn middlegames and long term openings, next, endgames can help beginners what they should avoid to not lose material
