I’ve had a couple of matches today where people trade the queen after a few moves and one dude traded 3 pieces. Why do players trade queens from the starting position? It’s lame as hell to me.
There are many possible reasons to trade. You might trade to damage the opponent's pawn structure. You might trade in order to make the opponent lose castling rights. You might trade because you feel like you are stronger in endgames. You might trade a good piece for a bad piece. You might trade to gain a lead in development if the opponent has to capture back with a pawn, losing a tempo. You might trade in order to win a pawn (removing a defender). You might trade in order to gain space in a cramped position. You might trade the Queens, if you have lost castling rights or your King safety is otherwise compromised or you are under attack...
Many reasons to trade, none of them lame really.
