Y'all are getting tougher or I'm getting worse. . .

JK. . .sort of.

Ever since crossing into the 4 digit territory . . .it got harder!  In some ways I'm playing the best Chess of my new interest - my accuracy is up, I'm playing better tactics, making fewer obvious blunders, doing a better job of managing the clock than I did before.  And I'm playing a more sophisticated game.  But still, y'all are tough.  Even when I get a decided advantage, y'all don't fold like you did at 800.  Even when you give up a piece, you're outplaying me positionally.   Even when I string together a few wins, one of youse comes right back to humble me.  Then I get a few losses in a row and I wiped out all the ratings progress I made.

Games are also going a lot deeper.  I feel like I always do better with middle game tactics with a pieces to work with and fall apart in end games when time is tight and it's down to pawns and a piece or two - and y'all keep forcing me to end games!

Argh.  Stop already  happy.png

I know the feeling. That's why I will soon stop playing here. Too many "tough" opponents playing idiotic chess happy.png I'd rather play seriously OTB or online against less suspicious players...

I find exactly the same thing, but it's completely normal right.  The rating system makes it so.  Imagine you're trying to beat yourself in a 100m race.  Even if you're Usain Bolt, you're still racing against Usain Bolt!

I have found the nature of the challenge has moved on as you say.  I used to lose to blunders, pins and obvious tactics I let them do, or not knowing how to to react to certain openings...

Now I find both players are decent and we get to a middle game with a decent position and it's so solid, I find it really hard to even see a move.  That's my biggest challenge right now, sitting for 5 minutes wondering what on earth I can even do...

"Mostly" gone of the days of a great "one mover", and thinking 5 moves ahead not knowing what your opponent will do is hard.

This just means you're getting better grin.png
