remember.....chess is learn every day with strong opponents......regard from serbia
YEAH!! I finally broke 1000!

my best accomplishment in chess was finally being able to navigate a scholar’s mate attack
was totally intimidated by this opening as i always believed all my opponents had some slick mating attack just waiting to be sprung
then, having to endure all the seasoned players poo poo’ing the scholar’s mate and calling out those of us who had trouble with it
spent a long time wallowing in the sub 1000 rapid pool here on chess.com

After two years I can finally consider myself a "beginner" Yippee!!
Congrats! After how many games? try to play slower games and analyse your mistakes with the engine;you should get to 1200 in a few months...

Oh and do some tacticals problems like 10 each day and you should get a lot better and maybe learn the London system for opening...it will make your life easier if you don't already use it.

Thanks for the congrats everyone! I have played approximately 3000 games as of today. I was playing a lot of blitz in the beginning but now play exclusively 15/10 games. If you add a speed component I really choke hard....... I do a TON of tactics and just broke the 1400 mark. I have found that when I "study" the masters, I try their advice and end up losing even more games.

Sometimes I feel like ratings don't mean that much. I have had really tough games with 700 level opponents and really easy wins over 1000+ opponents. It is surprising to me that "beginners" get a rating of 1000 upon signing up. It seems to me that 1000 requires a pretty solid handle on the game.
Probably fuel for an entirely new post but oh well......
I like this thread.....There is something about that 1000 Blitz rating! I have spent about as much time as the originator of the thread (best wishes, btw) on the game and do all of the things mentioned.I have gotten my 10 minute Blitz rating up to 1062,but am now down about 100 points(no big deal, since I play way too late at night and need to cut down on blunders).
I love the tactics puzzles and have gotten that up to over 1800 a week or so ago....Ha! That's down a bit too.
Yup! Book study/You-Tube videos and some OTB are on the agenda as well....Chess is a fun hobby and I'm hoping my overall approach of consistent play/study helps. It did for you and you deserve a congratulation!
