Capablanca's challenge

  After Capablanca retired from competitive chess he would rarely agree to a game. One day a distinguished looking man showed up at the gates of his estate. After a few messages shuttled back and forth by his butler Capablanca agreed to play one game. Capablanca playing white a hard fought Sicilian defence soon developed, after a series of sharp threats his opponent was stressed enough to make him spit. As it hit the floor the spit exploded in a flash of fire and then a cloud of smoke. The game progressed and despite playing his best Capablanca could see a long series of moves that would end in his eventually being mated. He tried one last trap to avoid the outcome,but was one tempo short.  This was answered with a strong refutation that caused another flash to come from the interceding piece. Capablanca said:" are you a magician or are you the devil." His opponent answered that he was indeed satan himself. Capablanca said he didn't believe it.He said if you really are the king of hell prove it, turn your king to gold. The devil touched his king and turned it to 14 carat gold. Capablanca said:" Now you have touched your king, you must move it!" and promptly won the game.: Stolen from the Fire Side Book of Chess
