Given that the man is weightless, how are the pieces sticking to the board? If it's magnetic, then that must surely mess up the equipment on the craft?

Chess is out of this world. This isn't shuffle chess invented by Fischer. This is shuttle chess invented by NASA.

Not necessarily. A weak magnet would be sufficient to keep the pieces on. Such a magnetic field would be insignificant beyond the board, itself. Also, it need not even be magnetic. There could be velcro or something else to help hold it in place.

Could be velcro. Why does everything have to be so sci-fi?
