Hi guys, I’m just making a new blog to get the award. I may as well ask all you chess.com users how much you enjoy chess while at it!

I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think chess was fun. But online chess has its drawbacks. For example sometimes on my small screen I press the wrong square and make a very stupid move. Sometimes I don’t need to blame the small screen and I make a stupid move all by myself. Sometimes people’s connection goes offline and the game gets aborted.

One thing I wasn’t prepared for was the rage and anger that courses through me when I loose. It doesn’t happen every time I lose. Just sometimes. I only felt this type of anger when I was 15 playing video games. So it’s strange to have it reappear while playing chess n the computer - I suppose it’s a type of video game. When thinking back to how angry I got when I was a teenager I thought it must have been hormones or something. But that wouldn’t explain why the anger revisits me now I am in my 40’s.

I also find that I go through phases of winning and losing. Even though often the elo of the player is very similar to mine. I suppose some people are on their way up and passing by my skill level on their way to being experts and masters. Other will have sat around my elo for ages and others will be coming down from greatness. What I can’t work out is how to achieve consistency in my game. Is it diet, exercise, mood, fatigue, tiredness, ambiance, or something else that affects my ability to play the best chess I can play? Or is it just that I am being put up against people of all kind of abilities and I get a run of people worse than me followed by people better. Or is it random chance.

So yeah, I enjoy chess. It’s a wonderful game full of strategy and tactics. And it never seems to get boring. Frustrating yes. But never boring.
