Does chess change your personality? Christmas warning.

What is the title of the book? Why do you assume you brother's personality changed based on a two-line note?
And why is it relevant for us to know that your brother's name is Mikelenie?

Leochap, the Reinfeld book has been out of print for more than half a century. Is it usual for your brother to give second-hand books & such as Christmas gifts? If not, you may be right, and chess did change his personality. For worse, it seems.
To:Mycorrhiza. I'm sorry to hear that. Goodness only knows there's enough to make us pessimistic without indicting chess... but that's really interesting. Why do you think you have become more pessimistic as a result of chess. Thanks for your comment. Leochap
I think chess is an extension of your personality. I have always been the mellow, laid back, patient type. My chess reflects that in the fact that i prefer semi closed/closed positions, and love slow positional games.

He must have grown tired of pretending that he's Dutch. He's used the word chap a bit too much. I don't think I've read another Brit using it in these Forum threads at all. And Mikelenie? What native English speaker would name their son that?
I think,'unrated games only' is perfectly right. I, too, believe that most of the things we do are reflective of our personality. An interesting concept in itself.
I thank all those who expressed a view on my short piece (which I intended as no more than a little humerous christmas holiday banter inspired by a mischievous brother) It seems to have generated a fair amount of interest and diverse comment. For anything and everything that's wrong with it...I blame my brother! FIN.
Crosspinner: I found your entry quite amusing. I'm running the risk of similar problems myself! Thanks...Leochap
