LOL no one remembers all that theory anyway. Checkers on a bigger board might be interesting though I can't play checkers anyway.

TheGrobe, your checkers board is brilliant.  I realize now that is also what a chessboard looks like to a bishop.

One correction: Your board depicts what would be the light squares.  Checkers is played on the dark squares.  The single corner should be on the checker-player's left.  I suppose you made that error intentionally for humorous effect.

TheGrobe

No, not intentional at all. Easy enough fix though.

ps  checkers is called draughts here in South Africa (and almost everywhere else that English is spoken, except the USA)

It isn't our fault the rest of the english speaking world is wrong! LOL

There is a version of international checkers played on a 10x10 board, And the kings "fly" or move acroos the board like a chess bishop.

I heard that Max Euwe, a former world champion played checkers as well as chess. I've noticed that some people like to play chess like checkers. They are always placing their pieces on one single color. When they do this I have a good laugh and then I cream them good!

I find checkers so easy to play once I've delved into chess for a few years.

Could you beat a checkers GM?

BigLew

@OP You should tell the ACF about your new board idea.

Do they have checkers ratings?

BigLew

I think so, they (the ACF) use the ELO system like chess, Scrabble® (NSA), Go, and other board games. I think ELO is even used in Bridge.

BigLew

checked the checker site  and Yes they have ratings.

Interesting!
