Gløf (Glöf)

At a chess youth camp, one of the trainers introduced this great game, known as Gløf. The question is if this game is new, or is known under another name.

The game is really simpel (for chess players). The game is just as chess. Except for 2 important rules:

1: The queen is removed, and in comes the Gløf, which looks exactly like a queen. The difference is that the Gløf moves like a bishop, a knight and a rook (or queen and knight). (Since the queen is no longer part of the game, in Gløf you cannot promote to queen, but you can promote to a Gløf)

Sounds scaringly? There is 1 more rule:

2: Gløf takes Gløf is an illegal move! So the Gløf can be taken by all pieces, except the Gløf. There is a "game" which shows this in practice:

(Can someone please tell how to make illegal moves? This is forced when you want to show your beatiful games of Gløf)

What is the rationale behind the second rule?

The human rationale is that it makes it easier to attack, because the Gløf is a horrible defending piece against a Gløf. But it actually also makes it a little difficult to attack with many pieces, because you don't defend a piece if your piece is attack by your opponents Gløf and only defended by your own Gløf. (1. Gc3 Nc6 2. d4 d5 3. Gxd5)

The logical rationale is that... wait a minute... oh crap.
