How long have you played chess?

If you want to become better at chess you should play a lot of chess...Play a lot agianst better players. Use tactic trainer a lot, and try ChessMentor(this requires becoming diamond member). Study endgame, tactics, checkmates patterns and more. Dont focus to much on openings if you are new to the game.

If you really want to get the full benefit of chess.com and its learning tool you should consider to become a paying member of some sort:)

and also watch the board and look over the pieces and plan your move and before you hit that submit button look and see what piece is going to take it  and ask your self this  question   Why did that person move that piece there? and try to stay within your rating that way you will be playing people  at your level unless you play someone like me  that could care less about the point Just love to play Chess

I think one way to help your chess game would be the tactics trainer.  First you need to be strong in the basics.  Try a program like chessmaster or here on chess.com, where you can study the tactics involved.  Pins, skewers, forks, discoveries, etc.
