How old was Fischer when he got to NM livel?

One more note JMB2010, Bobby did not "back out" of chess.  This post only shows your unintelligence.  Bobby did in fact frequent chess clubs and play in California after the 72 win.  And also, ask the Polgar sisters if he "backed out" of chess.  Are we forgetting the Fischer-Spassky rematch 1992 I believe with Bobby 17.5 points to Spassky's 12.5.  Where do you people come from, I thought this was a quality chess blog,  it's full of nitwits and hackers!

fischeriii

I apologize Fooliot, for overwhelming this thread, you are correct.  I stand corrected, I seem to waste my time with such hackers who would call Bobby a coward.

JMB2010

I am sorry, I mean he stopped professional chess, aside from the 1992 rematch.

All of these "chess" bloggers on this thread probably do not have a tournament rating above 1500, their posts and intelligence show this.

Uhhhh...What? No...

Yes, JMB2010, thank you for your apologie, give Bobby some credit, all his chess history and winning the world championship in grand style!  He achieved all that he wanted to achieve!!!   AND went on to re beat Spassky 20 years later no less!!!  I am actually glad Bobby slowed his professional career down.  The new technology coming out would have allowed the Soviets to find a cheating way to "beat" him and take away wonderful record.  Bobby is smarter than you think!

What is your tournament rating JMB2010? You do not have to answer this if you do not want to.  I do not mean "online" rating, or any other rating but actual Fide rating based on playing in National tournaments or the World chess Tournaments.  If you do not wish to answer I understand.

Ok these are my final words-Bobby was a brilliant player. The fact that he beat Spassky after not playing professional chess for 20 years was amazing. I am sure that if he did play tournament chess from 1972 onward, he would have compiled an astonishing track record and beaten Karpov. The fact that he didn't play tournament chess is tragic. It was a great loss to chess, since Bobby had the potential to be world champ for 20+ years.

This is me.  I began playing at age 7.  I continued to play in college, beating most, and came home to place well in local club tournaments.  I went on to play in many National tournaments in the US, including the National Chess open and the North American Chess Open, and placed 3rd in a National Tournament in the US after taking GrandMaster training from my chess teacher, Roman Dzindzichashvili, who I think now has his own chess site.  I have played 4 or 5 times in the World Chess Open and played in a blind fold simul by Larry Christiansen.  I still play today in National Tournaments and the World Open.

I stand corrected JMB2010, thank you for showing class.

Thank you.  I am sure you will do the same!

fischeriii

and for the rest of you, if you made some crude comments that you posted on this thread at say, the World Open, and the players there overheard you, you would be labeled chess morons and worse.  Do yourself a favor and try to grow up1 :)

JMB2010

BTW fischeriii what is your rating?

For those who wish to know some truth about Fischer, here are some comments made during the 92 tournament, no wonder!,  I applaud Fischer for being gracious as much as he was:  "A memorable press conference

On 1 September 1992, Fischer gave his first press conference in 20 years. When asked about his reaction to the threats by Washington, Fischer took out a letter from the Treasury Department and spat on it.

He accused Kasparov and Karpov of playing "prearranged" matches, and accused Karpov and Korchnoi of the same. Spassky supported the opinion by pointing out the finish of the 19th game of the 1990 matchin Lyon.

When asked about his reputation as an anti-Communist, Fischer said "Soviet Communism is basically a mask for Bolshevism which is a mask for Judaism." Asked later about his apparent anti-Semitism, he said, "I'm definitely not anti-Arab, OK?"

He accused the Soviets of keeping his royalties from his book "My 60 Memorable Games", and said that there would be no possibility of a match with Kasparov unless the royalties were paid.

On 2 September 1992, the New York Times published an editorial. "  Taken from this link:  http://www.mark-weeks.com/chess/92fs$$.htm

Thank you for asking JMB2010, but I must politely decline because I wish to remain anonymous.  It is, as you may say, quite respectable.

I completely understand

Fischer was clearly a Genius and Incredible player.  Maybe the best that ever lived or at least close.  But he was still a coward who pretended to not be interested in chess anymore so that he could avoid ever losing his title.  Just my opinion.  And yes, I'm a low rated loser in chess and probably slow too, so if that means I'm not entitled to an opinion, oh well.  Also, I can't believe anyone would defend this hate-mongering bigot who cheered the death of thousands of innocent people killed on Sept.11.
