Illegal Position Contest!
Retracting either exf6 or f7-f6 blocks the path of one of the bishops.
This reminded me of a position I recently posted, so I'll repost that one if you'd like to see it.
Great job Leither! Let’s see, last move has to be e7-e6 otherwise the g8 bishop can’t get there. Black’s pawn structure requires 12 captures so every piece has to be used. Before e7-e6, white needs a legal last move too. The king could not have moved from e6, f6, or g6 as he would be in an impossible check. From g5, last move would have to be gxh6 but then the dark squared bishop couldn’t get out. From e5, last move would have to be cxd6 or d6, but then one of the bishops couldn’t get there. bxa3 also fails because then the dark squared bishop can’t get out. That was a nice one, thank you for showing me!
Why is the position legal if 1 black piece is removed, excluding pawns and bishops?
I don’t see why, wouldn’t there still be the problem of white not having a legal move on the previous turn?
One possibility becomes available with the removal of a piece (besides a pawn or bishop)
Ohhh I think I see it now, white could have played kxf5 capturing a rook that moved from f7. You’re a genius
What do you guys think about this position? I am guessing that the bLSB could not have reached g8 without causing white's king to remain in check for multiple moves.
What do you guys think about this position?
What position is this? If it's #8138, EvinSung posted the same position, but with the a2 pawn at a3, in the Shortest Proof Game thread.
It's insane how only 8 cross-captures are needed for all 8 pawns to pass each other. That means both sides having 10 bishops is possible.
this one?
Still a bit too obvious, white has three knights but no promoted pawns. You’re in the right direction though.
i like how everybody is ignoring me
So do we.
