The black bishop left c8 before the white knight got there, in order to be captured at f3, so the knight arrived from d6. Before it reached d6, the black queen had moved to b8 to let Black escape a check by the knight. I completely forgot about a capture on h8, my idea was to force h7-h8=n and not give black a legal last move but I didn’t think of a g7 pawn promoting on h8.

I suppose you could put a black pawn on g7, but then there is no try with bK coming from g7.

I’m sure @BigDoggProblem will find some way to prove this legal but as far as I know it’s illegal.
This is a common trick puzzle, because it appears in a semi-famous book, but is it possible for this position to be reached with white to move?
What if white shuffles the knight to open
