Then again most of us of course only play Chess for " Fun ". Another example of needing some talent would be in the game of Golf, almost anyone can play Golf however playing golf at the Pro level is a rare talent ( & being able to play Chess at the top level is also quite rare ).
Is Chess An Occupation ? ( Perhaps Yours ? )
i would hazard a guess that there are more instructors making a living at the game than those that play for a living.
same with golf. there are 18,000 pga pros but far less that earn a living by playing.

--- I had no idea that there were so many pros, lots of teaching being done I guess.
Certainly we know about the top GMs who are able to make a living by playing Chess, however what about the CMs, the NMs or the IMs ( or even the FMs ) ?
