That all makes sense, great... except you're clearly talking about picture VIII ! ... That's the source of the confusion... so, IX is the octopus Knight game ... okay.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. I realize there are many variations of "Immortal Game" (Zugzwang, King Walk, "Losing" etc.), the one I had in mind was Anderssen - Kieseritzky.
