"Free Parking" & House Rules

The cryptic topic title refers to the game of Monopoly "Free Parking" space.  House rules commonly have a collection of cash going to the person landing on that space, but that is not in the official rules.  I was wondering if any of you have any chess house rules to add some variety.  For example, in addition to playing bughouse and 4-person games (4 opponents all on the same board OR 2-person teams alternating moves but with NO communication between them), we've come up with some other variations as well.

In one variation, pawns can capture normally or by 'jumping' opponent pieces like in checkers.  In another, and I use this one with the kids especially, pawns (for either one or both players, depending who's playing) reaching the fifth rank can promote (if the player wants) to a Knight, sixth rank - Bishop, seventh rank - Rook.  You need a couple sets of pieces for this one.  Then, in another variation that we call 'vortex', we play as if the sides of the board were connected, so that, for example, a Rook on g5 could move to a5 by passing over h5, off the board and then back on to get to a5.  This particular version gets extremely tricky on diagonal or Knight moves... a Knight on g5 can move to or take pieces on a4 and a6, and a Queen on h1 attacks the a2-g8 diagonal in addition to the normal directions.  Lots of fun.

So, what are your house rules?

The loser has to cut off a finger.

I do wonder why I even come to this site any more.  Maybe I should stop.

Half bughouse.

Lol,  you should come here to play chess. That's why I'm here. Seriously, what is the point of making chess more complex? Its complex enough.

Must win in 30 moves or less, otherwise win for other side.

Is Chess960 a further complication of the game, since the pieces can start on so many more different squares, or a simplification since it reduces the importance of opening theory?

Its a simplification. From what I've read, 960 tends to be sharper, with one side frequently having a strong advantage. This limits positional strategic play. The fact of the matter is that chess is very well balanced, and 960 ruins that aspect.

I like the Oranges. Also, the Railroads are good early. Is there a name for that point in the game when it becomes better to be in jail than out?

Though is completely defeats the concept of the game, we never required a monopoly to starting building houses and hotels ... oh, and there was no limit to the number of hotels you could place on a property ... oh, and you could bargain with someone when they landed on your property ... oh, and the best of all: you could hide money and feign being poor to get out of paying full tilt if you landed on Boardwalk with 3 hotels on it. Surprised

"Rulz? Rulz? We don't need no stinkin' rulz!"

I thought bargaining was always part of the game's intent.

Replacement Chess - all captured pieces and pawns are immediately put back on the bd wherever the player who captured them sees fit to*  Eventually someone's King is too exposed in front of all or most of their pieces and pawns, resulting in checkmate.

Losing Chess - First player to give away everything wins. Captures are mandatory, but your choice if more than one capture is possible. The King is just another piece to give away, so there is no check or checkmate involved.

* Isn't there some rule about not ending a sentence in a preposition?

I like to invoke "King's Privilege." 3 moves to my opponent's 1.

It's good to be the king!

I think 2 for 1 is more fair, assuming you take away a lot of material from one side, and allow the first move of the 2-side to be illegal (going into check).

You must not know where that comes from:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57jOssjTbWw

Nope. Funny. Thanks for posting.
