Spar Chess

Recently, the Junior chess team at my school (which I am in) won the championships (seniors were 4th), and so we had a celebration.

The seniors started playing a game in which if you wanted to capture while a piece was within one square of your own piece, you had to actually duel your opponent with a type of large, square ruler. If you managed to hit your opponent, you were allowed to take the piece. If you lost, your piece was removed, but the other player's piece did not move. I thought it was an interesting concept.

Fencing chess, anyone?

That doesn't sound as hazardous as chess boxing.

It's not really.  It's more like fencing.
