As to who moves first, Ivory was considered better then Ebony by the Vikings who brought the game to England with Ivory moving first.
Doesn't really matter, that's like saying the Xbox One is discriminating against white people because the black Xbox One came out before the white Xbox One.

Lemme tell you something Pal. When you are raining. You are a racist. It has nothing to do with the color of the pieces on the board. Check out the movie, Ford vs. Ferrari. Its so racists. I'm glad that Ford won!!! Because Ford is built Ford Tough.

I’ve often noticed that the white pieces never ever associate with the black pieces and vice versa. Wow, come to think of it, I’ve even seen them kill each other! And it’s so ironic because none of them have noticed that they are all almost exactly the same, just different colors.
The squares are called Light and Dark. The colour of the pieces is arbitrary. Traditionally White and Red.
