In the Tromso Olympiad, three teams stood out in terms of the names of the members.First, the Irish team , which was represented by Astaneh Lopez, Baburin, Collins and Daly : A,B, C and D.
Tanzania was represented by 4 Ms: Mdoe, Mwanyika, Mlawa and Mwaisumbe. Perhaps not so surprising since a high percentage of their surnames start with " M". Madagascar was represented by 4 Rs: Rajaonarison, Rakotomaharo, Rakotoniaina and Ramasindraibe. Is it pure coincidence ? I am not sure since I don't have a comprehensive list of Madasgarscan surnames. The South Korean team featured two Kims and two Lees, not a big coincidence since the two surnames together account for close to 30% of the South Korean population.
In the 1966 Olympiad, Denmark was represented by Larsen, Brinck-Claussen, Andersen and Enevoldsen. The initials form "ABLE" or " ELBA"
In the Lugano Olympiad (1968),three of the Hong Kong team members were Kazanski, Gibbs and Hardt ( the others were Hobson and Badilles ) . The first letter of their names spell out the code for Hong Kong : HKG.Although of no great importance, this remains a record to beat.
