which chess player is inside the mechanical Turk?

Mentioned this on other posts but I don't think the bot is based on who was inside the actual Turk historically, but is a fun way of playing 'guess the bot'. Based on its style, and the clues it drops through comments, my guess is Capablanca

@7 yep that was my point though, it's not based on who was inside the original machine, they've 'hidden' a famous player inside it and the point is to guess who it is. When you play the bot, it says it won the Hastings tournament and also played Alekhine, which the Turk machine never did

My guess was capablanca as well, although I haven't beaten the bot yet so I don't know what it says if you win.

and if so who is it
because tygxc said it was Johann Allgaier, William Lewis, Jacques Mouret, and William Schlumberger. But that is multiple chess players, so do they swich when one gets old???

oh never mind I read the artical where it says Johann Allgaier, William Lewis, Jacques Mouret, and William Schlumberger.

I don't think the player "inside the turk" has anything to do with the history of the real Mechanical Turk. My guess is Capablanca. The bot says something along the lines of "How many moves can I see ahead? Oh, I don't know... fifty!" I'm fairly certain that's a famous line Capablanca said to a reporter one time.
