why let the time go out when you know you loose?

I love playing chess. I loose and I win - to be honest, I mostly loose. But sometimes I am in a winning situation, and I hate it when my opponent choose to let the game go out on time, instead of resigning or let it go to check mate.
Yeah those people who do that can't accept that they lose and they think they are even with their opponent but they're not they are just proving that they aren't sports
With chess I'm probably too self-obsessed to care what my opponent does 
As long as I'm winning and my rating goes up I'm happy...My opponent letting the time run out is the same as resigning I guess...
