11 year-old vs. NM - please analyse :)

Hi, My son participated in a one of those open tournaments where you just don't know who'll show up. In the g/30 d5 game I'm posting he was playing a National Master, who is more than double his rating. Actually, in all his games that day he was outgunned by a minimum of almost 900 to almost 1300 points.

He tried his best and kept a positive attitude throughout 4 g/30 d5 losses and 6 blitz losses. I want to help him at least learn from these losses however I am not skilled enough to offer helpful analysis.

If someone could help us out, that would be awesome!

What's your son's rating?

LesuhAn

Hi Sanguo, you found my post. :)

He's under 1000 USCF although people have told him he plays about a 1300 USCF level game. Although, I wouldn't know since he is better than I am!

LesuhAn

Anyone? :)

Zigwurst

One thing that I notice is that he played the heavily overanalysed Ruy Lopez against a strong player. I do not recommend playing heavily theoretical openings against people who will definitely know the openings a lot better.

What is the master's rating?

LesuhAn

Thank you, that's a good point. I'll mention it to him, although, I think one of the things he needs to learn is more openings. I think the NM's rating had dropped down below the level that makes you a national master. I guess, you keep the rating once you achieve it. I think he was close to 2100.

rukja

it seems as he needs to work more on how to defend pawn storms

Your son might have considered opening the center instead of a3 which lost time and weakend his pawn structure.

Notice black's king never moved!

LesuhAn

Okay, thank you both for the ideas...

Omega_Doom

I see that your son was outplayed strategically. He played on king side although his opponent didn't castle. He should have fought for the center more.

LesuhAn

Thanks for the recommendations, will we look into those gambits. :)

LesuhAn

Posts crossed! Okay, thanks, Omega. :)

Post crossed, again! Chessmickey, I agree. It wasn't supposed to be like that! Usually, there is an under 1600 section. We've requested an under 1200 or 1400 section. The TM expected more people but since my son was there, he wanted to play. His next tournament will be somewhere else and has an under 1000 section. Maybe he'll win! If not, he's sure to win some.:)

Just by looking at ths game for a minute, I can say that 10.h3 + 11.g4 wasn't too good. A defensive move like 10. Kb1 is better, and if Black plays 10...Qd7, I guess 11.h3 b5 12. g4 b4 13. Ne2-g3-f5 is okay for White, with a contiuation of f4. I'm not sure though, I don't play this for White. I might be wrong, it's just my intuitive sense.

LesuhAn

Thank you for taking the time to do that for him, rajnikant001! That's awesome, I will have him go through it after breakfast. :)

LesuhAn

Thank you for your advice, Thunder_Penguin. :)

Thanks, everyone, hopefully this will help him improve.:)

@rajnikant001

How do you use the computer analysis? I only know hotw to use the computer analysis for my own games. This option don´t appear for other player games.

Btw, which is the best engine (more friendly and understandly)  to make a full game analysis?. I read a lot of sucesion of moves, but I can´t understand why one move is really better that another one

Thanks in advance

While your boy tried his best, I don't think it's a good idea for him to play in a tournament where he is so badly outrated in every single game

I couldn't disagree more.

I think ...a3 is not so good a Play ...b4  and the white King is not good

LesuhAn

Nobodyreally, while I was proud of him for playing, it's not easy trying so hard and still getting beaten badly. This game I posted was his fourth game and right before he played, he half-jokingly said, "I'm gonna die." I'm hoping the experience will only help him but I wouldn't do it again. At least not where every opponent was around 900-1300 points higher than him.

Can't help but notice the FM before your name; care to share some insight about his game? :)
