Alright, just to forewarn you, I am bad at chess. I'm very bad. I just started playing and I'm trying to get better, and as I as playing this game it seemed like a real learning experience. His line of attack was one I had never seen, and I believe i defended it well. He lost due to time, but i believe i had the advantage at the time. Any advice, tips, or analysis of either of our moves would be amazing.

well, on move #4 i don't see why you couldn't have taken knight with queen. I mean it would have been a tradeoff later on but still. also on move #9 take the queen with knight. I get that your going for undiscovered check which would lead to checkmate in about 2 moves but he can defend that. Move #11 instead of checking with knight use the queen to move to f2. that forces king out even further and a soon to be checkmate. Move #13 for you is checkmate if Qe2. Alot of missed moves but since you admit to not being good at chess it's forgivable. what was to time limit by the way?

ShepMaster

Also at the end when he lost on time you had to keep checking him because he had a discovered check by moving the bishop which could have led to checkmate in 2 moves

The opening is an italian game, which is not all that uncommon, so maybe use game explorer and study it a bit.  It is hard to analyse your game because there were so many obvious blunders.  Your position is superior because he cannot stop mate in a fews moves without losing his queen.

@ shepmaster, i know about the discovered check to checkmate with the bishop and queen at the end, we actually discussed it after time ran out. I believe time was 10 min. And also, i never even saw 13. Qe2 :( but ya it was really bad, and there were so many obvious blunders. The big thing is, the move to take the queen is a necessary one? when i had the knight fork, i shouldve just gone with the queen instead of rook?

Hi there. Don't worry about being poor at chess, we  were all beginners at one time or other.

I just had a look through your game. Your first three opening moves are good as they develop pieces and retain some control of the four central squares. This is very important! You don't have to learn complicated openings until later if you follow these three basic rules. You'll be well into a game before youre in any kind of trouble.

1. Make sure your pieces are developed. (So try not to move the same piece twice). Make pawn moves that allow other pieces to develop.

2. Control or defend the centre.

3. Get your king safe and castle early.

The opening after move 3 is the Guioco Piano (or italian opening). Many old grandmasters used to play this. It is a very often played opening and is good for beginners to learn the ideas behind this.

White's move 4.Ng5?? ( A blunder as black simply play 4...QxN. It is undefended after all!) is a way for white to attack the pawn on f7 with 2 pieces and I've seen many games where white will swap both the knight and bishop to gain a pawn and rook and stop black castling. You shouldnt panic too much about this as White swaps off his developed pieces too quickly and you will have time to get your king safe. 2 rooks at the end can be an advantage but not so much at the start. White played this move far too early.

You are in trouble here but the knight fork on f2 shows you have a grasp of the tactics of the game.

9. Bc4 is indeed a blunder. He should have saved his queen, and the game would have been fairly even after you capture his rook back.

Whilst 9...Qh4 is a nice idea of a discovered attack, you should take the queen.

10 Bf7 completely ignores the threat. Bad idea.

11 ...Qf2+is better forcing his unprotected King out to the centre of the board.

12 Ke1?? allows the discovered check again...but his position is already hopeless

12 ...Qe4?? youre playing too fast. Slow down. relax. think.

13...QxQ is mate. Slow downnnnnn.

The rest of the game is kinda much of the same. Mistakes by both players.

My guess is that this is a blitz game or youre both pretty much beginners.

Try to relax a little, its only a game. Playing blitz is not good for the heart or for your chess. Take your time. Play longer games and think a little. You will improve quicker.

Good luck with your chess.

woow. no offence but YOU SUCK! (i wrote no offence)

So do you. We all do. The  highest online rating here that I've seen is less than 1800 (but then I only play live blitz chess). You can subtract at least 200 points from that for a proper ELO rating. Average ELO strength is 1400 to 1600 ('C' player) so most people on this site would perform below average if they played tournament chess. I suggest you have a look at your own games.
