A blunderful win.

Hello chess.com!
I was on LIVE a few days ago, and played this game. It was 5 minutes/2minute increments. We used that extra time well, but we still made blunders. Actually, quite a few blunders. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Why are you trying to follow a formula in the opening instead of paying attention to what your opponent does? If you want to get an advantage you have to take advantage of your opponent's mistakes.

After 3. ... c5 you can play 4. dxe5 winning a pawn. If 4. ... dxe5 5. Qxd8 Kxd8 6. Nxe5. White's position is much better.

Why are you obsessed with getting a bishop on the a2-g8 diagonal? There's more than one way to skin a cat, if you try to force a particular idea it will simply be countered.

9. Nxd6 "eh, I'll take a pawn." Eh, you'll lose a knight! Ok, you don't lose a piece because you get the fork next move, but you've been ignoring this fork for several moves, it was not necessary to give up the knight to get it.

11. dxc6. Awful. Your opponent attacked your bishop and you ignored the threat.
