A game I just played

Always a little bit frustrating when you draw as you haven't won!  Was there anything I could have done to win (well yes,) but what specifically?

5. d4 attacks his bishop and defends the knight

10. c3 costs him another tempi, your bishop can go to a better square later

11... Re8, your opponent should prevent you from castling

13. Bd3 upgrades the placement of your bishop and prevents Bf5, thats what I'd do.  Your move wasn't terrible or anything.

16. Rxc7 Bd3 17. Kf1 is ok for white.

19. Rxc6 bxc6 20. Rc1 Bd7 21. Nc5, and you have a way better position.

21. Nc5 seems good to me, but I'm not so sure.  Letting him double your pawns on the b-file isn't so good.

22... Rd8 and black is better

23... Kf8?

28. Re1?! you are in a lot of trouble here, there aren't alot of good moves.

29. Rb4? You need to protect f2.

Yes, 10.c3 was better, but 10.Bd2 is also playable. You should have taken the Bishop with a King though. After Queens' exchange your King is safe in the center, so you don't really have to castle.

Thanks for your comments.  I could have easily played d4 with my pawn on move 5, as its a move I do know about!

29 Rook to b4 was to attack his b pawn at b7.  I realised the very next move that was probably a bad one.

Overall I think the game was good, both of us could have made better moves at various points during the game, but no one made a terrible blunder.  I really enjoy close matches though.
