Hi Spencer. Thank you for the comment! And yeah, I agree with your analysis. I was afraid of getting my bishop trapped, and even if i did manage to trade it for some other piece, I was afraid of the dark square weakness around my king. Hence the retreat!
At the beginning I avoided the Sicilian like the plague. I thought it was too complex to learn. How wrong! While yes, it is complex, it's also sooooooo much fun. I wish you much success with it! Also, as a piece of advice, check out chessable. It's a website by IM Bartholomew and you can create your own opening repertoire. For me it definitely has made memorizing these Sicilian lines easier ^^
Considering this is my first time playing the Rossolimo, and I being somewhat more of a positional player, this game was really tactical and I felt I did well. Despite all the sharpness, and me being in extreme time trouble for most of the game, I only made one blunder Bd4, which wasn't even a losing blunder, just one that diminished my advantage, and I managed to walk away with a 93.00 accuracy!!! Super happy about this game, and I'm glad that recently I've made the effort of switching to the Sicilian.
