Is this position +1.23 for white or +0.45? How is somebody who is trying to learn supposed to use this?

The 1.23 is from the Game Review run at whatever strength it was configured for and how deep it was able to get. The eval bar is the local engine and is potentially deeper and may have a much different evaluation depending which engine you have configured for local analysis.

It's funny that in that other thread there are 100s of people complaining about Game Review for silly reasons, but here you have explained a huge flaw in Game Review that nobody is talking about.

It’s not a huge flaw… just look at the eval bar

I ran into this a while ago. A game review suggested that the best move led to a positive evaluation of about +.4. The suggested move looked strange to me and I went through the game using the Analysis function. Now, the previously suggested move was considered a mistake, leading to a negative evaluation of about -.3.

I have seen fluctuations as large as this as the engine looks more deeply into the position. However, i had never seen as large a change from positive to negative in a position that did not involve a sacrificial attack.

it just shows that you shouldn’t rely exclusively on an engine unless you have it running on a super computer.

It's not a review issue but an engine depth one
