Asking help for positional evaluation and when to sacrifice a piece.

Hi there. I'm a player relatively new to chess theory trying to develop my positional evaluation skill.

I want to request help analyzing these two basic questions in this game on mine. Positional evalution, and when to sacrifice material for other gains. Any other feedbacks would also be appreciated.

- Basically around move 7. I thought I had a lead in development but worse pawn structure and opened up the attack. Was I right?

- Move 14-15 I sacrificed a Bishop, reasoning that I still had more pieces in play. Was I right?

- Was move 20 the best course of action?

- In the end, how would you analyze that position if I didn't make that blunder.

- I spent the majority of the game with only tactical considerations (after I already opened up the attack). Was there actually another more effective approach to the game, or was positional evaluations irrelevant under those conditions?

The game is as follows:

Thank you for all your help.

ps. How do you add alternate lines to the board?

on move 20 I think or feel that Re4 would be a better move and then to follow up moving your other rook to e8 next move this double  rook threat  your opponenent would have no defense against as the knight is pinned via the queen

For instance, after 21.gxf3, Nxf3 Black can easily sidestep the threatened double-check with Kg2, and I don't think you have enough compensation for the material.

19. I reasoned that all my pawns were backward and not an asset, so Qf6+ to keep the pressure on. (Yes, I failed to see that double attack - discovered attack on my R and N.)

20. If I moved the Rook anywhere else other than attacking, I would lose the Knight for free, right?

I think 10...h5 looks quite strong, but your move was ok. But I don't like your reasoning on your 12th move. I just don't see a concrete payoff from 12...Re8 13.fxg4 Rxe3+ 13.Kf1 Bxg3 14.hxg3 Rxg3 15.Nf3 On the other hand, after 12...Bd7 13.O-O h5 you have a really good position at no cost.

12. True. Re8 was a mistake. Even to continue with the same idea it should have been. 12... Bxg3 13.hxg3 Re8

I admit h5 was never in a piece of my mind. I would never have thought of opening a pawn in front of my King like that. (I know in some case it is appropriate, but I don't know how to analyze that)

Thanks for the alternate line. I'll look into that.
