Lay the game out on a playable board. Then it'll be easy to look at it.
Beginner's luck - NOT!
A couple thoughts:
- If your goal is to be defensive, you should stick with ...e5, ...c6 (the Caro-Kann), or another response. The Sicilian is known to be a very aggressive 'defense' to e4.
- 2... Qb6 is a bit of a wasted move. You're not attacking anything, and missed a chance to develop a piece. Nf6, e6, d6, etc. are all better options.
- 3... d5 is not necessary, and actually doesn't block the bishop's attack on f7 after Bxd5, as the d5 pawn is not protected. You can simply play 3... e6 to block the bishop's attack on f7, or Nf6 to
- 7... Nc6 is not good here as it does nothign to prevent Qxf7+. e6 or Nf6 to block the attack on f7 seem better.
- 11... Nf6 loses a rook for no reason.
Anyway, just focus on making good developing moves and meeting the threat. The Bc4 + Qf3/Qh5 attack on f7 will be used a lot by beginners, but it's not too hard to defend against, and if you play properly, you should get a good lead in development. Also, remember to make sure your pieces are protected so that you don't lose them for nothing in return when you make a move.
Hey Chess.commers!
As a beginner, chess isn't as friendly like some other games. I enjoy it, despite being on the losing end. There is so much to learn, and it seems one could endlessly spend time working out the best moves etc, though I'm definitely far from that stage.
However, I learnt a few opening moves and can recognise some now, and the pillars of chess have been drilled in, such as, you shouldn't develop the Queen too soon in the game, you should control the centre. However, this game was frightening. My opposite drew out the Queen so fast that when I did come to analyse the game later, the move wasn't even recorded in the analysis program. I lost the game from the moment the Queen moved, at least, I was not prepared, and the clock was ticking, 15 minutes.
I played black, and thought I was being defensive with the Sicilian.
1.e4 c5 2.Qf3
That's when I was stuck, so, I thought I'd be a little assymetrical or something. No forethought. Leading me to bring out my Queen. Though, I feel a better move could have been done here, as my intention was to be defensive, which was why I employed the Sicilian Defense in the first place.
Qb6
3. Bc4
I wasn't sure if the game was lost for me yet, but this is where I think I did my worst. Could anyone tell me what I could have done here, instead of my d5.
The rest was history.
