I admire the way you resolutely refuse to absorb any information that is not design specifically to answer the narrowest possible question. I'm sure that's how all the great players learned chess

I already know that bxc6 brings the pawn closer to the center. I didn't ask about that because I already knew it.

Good for you!

I was wondering if losing the bishop pair was a significant factor to consider. It was just a yes or no question.

GambitShift

In this case, based on what others have stated, I conclude "No, it's not worth giving up the bishop pair in this case, at least if not provoked with a move like a6."

As for the second question with the single bishop, I conclude "No, the bishop pair is not a pivotal factor in taking the knight on f6. What is pivotal is that you double pawns on the f file and you can then get your knight to f5 where it won't be attacked."

Thank you all for giving me input into this matter. If you want to teach me something else, please write a textbook and make a .pdf file of it. You could put one chapter or a demo section online somewhere and perhaps people might buy it.

Then it will be "your thing" and we can then benefit from what you have to share. You might be able to make some money from it.

You only get to ask questions, you don't get to dictate the form of the answers. If anyone accidentally taught you anything about chess, I'm sure they're very sorry

I have added a disclaimer in my profile. Forcing other information not directly to my questions will just waste your time if you are trying to help. I have tried to explain this in my profile and my intent on this site.

If people want to continue to give side information, then it will derail the threads I make and I will have to block you. I don't want to, because a lot of times the answer to my questions do come up eventually, after the wrangling. I am trying to minimize that so that direct answers can be given.

I have nothing wrong with someone answering the question and then saying, "Oh and also you might want to look into __________"

Feel free to provide a link to another thread that has the info YOU want to share. I won't feel like you are "stealing" my listeners. You should do your own thing. But do it on your yard. That respect gets reciprocated when I want to comment to you. I won't tell you what you should be learning.
