Blackburne-Shilling / Fried liver attempt mixture

In this game my opponent played 5. .. Nd4 and it was like blackburn shilling gambit (it became more like it after 7. .. Qc6)

I couldn't decide how to respond this. And eventually lost.

Any idea how should i have approached this after 5. .. Nd4?

Seems like i'm not able insert the game.

That's a trappy, if not wholly sound, line in the Two Knights. The key move for White seems to be 6.c3

zes0460

Asking black what he's gonna do with the knight right away, you say. Well, seems like there is no good countermove for black for that. thanks

here you go

DasBurner

id just play c3 or castle short

aMazeMove

technically nothing wrong with 6.d6, but after Qxd6, d3 is key to develop, and you still have the threat of winning the f7 pawn. Of course, the better move is 6.c3

put it in the board icon, those words.

ne way about the game- Nd4 is a tricky line i think

d6 was completely unnecessary

Nxf7 requires caution

Nxe5 is just terrible

why not Nxh8 if the trap isnt noticed?

also f3 stops the trap

Bf7+ is a REALLY computer move. computers just give checks to delay checkmate

Rf1 also delays but if Bf7+ is a delay y not Nc6+ or Ng6+? these moves make no sense in the flow

he had cornered you

black probably was angry at himself

This is my favourite way of handling it - just keep capturing - so easy to remember.

@pfren thanks for correcting the name. I inspected your given position. White looked better to me. After Nc3 d5 white has central advantage, at least it looked like to me. And black knight may have hard time to get out of there.

Of course i probably won't find an appropriate opponent who would respond with these moves before 2000 rating wink.png

@DerekDHarvey your variation is also good. Not too hard to find for me though.

My understanding of blackburne-shilling greatly increased happy.png
