Blundered my queen in classical. Came back and won. Check it out.

LosingAndLearning81, I can't speak for everyone (as not everyone appears to share my view) - but I appreciate you showing your game. I have similar experiences (several over the board) where I came back from a blunder too. Mouse-slips happen to everyone online every now and then, but mistakes always creep in, over the board or not; I am glad to see you not only continue the game, but even to win from a situation most give up in. Continue in future scenerios similar to how you did here and hope that mouse-slips do not occur again. Thanks for sharing this comeback game, I enjoyed it. Additionally, it is nice to see a game posted where the player is not either bragging or asking for help with no analysis/starting point. Thank you for posting this game.

So true dude

Thanks.

I have to be honest. I was wildly aggressive after blundering my queen with one finger on resign button. Afterwards, my opponent was such a good sport about the whole thing but I'm surprised he didn't punish me further with some of the moves I was making. But...as it turns out, sometimes going balls-to-wall with nothing to lose is the way to play after making a big mistake like that.

If I were playing a titled player, however, I resign out of respect. Anyone else, just go balls-to-the-wall and then resign.

Yea, but I was rated 500 points better than my opponent. Kasparov and Vishy were equal strength.

But then again I like your way of seeing it. wink.png

Yeah. On Lichess, 8/0 is considered “classical”. Next troll thread!

Why does everyone always have to be so snarky and rude? Rudeness doesn't make you witty or special - people like you are literally a dime a dozen. That type of behavior comes so easy. Patience and kindness take effort - weak minded people have none of this.

It happens sometimes. I get really, really salty about resigning threads, firstly, because they’re dumb (just resign whenever you want to, your opponent won’t care), and secondly because I live in a non-chess household and as a result, I went through a lot of crap even getting certain people to let me resign games when I wanted to.

I can sympathize with you about the household situation - when I talk chess to my family I might as well be speaking Vulcan. I am a little confused though about the "resigning thread" comment - this thread was about losing a queen and still winning. Of course I may have misunderstood - if that's the case, then my bad.

Uh says you who called me an idiot and told me to read gooder

Why would you make a comment like that in the first place? Don't turn it around on me - I posted a game of mine that I simply wanted to share, with lichess.org clearly written in the game's header, and you felt the need to declare that it wasn't my game. I'm sorry, but that was naive. And to follow it up with, "for all I know you could just be making this up" doesn't exactly fly.  I mean, that can apply to anyone on the internet posting games. But what makes you think I'm trying to convince you of anything, anyway? If you wish to think that I'm "making it up" then go right ahead. But I do think that if I were going to lie about a game and say it's mine, I would post something where the winner made better moves than what I made in that game.

But maybe you were just messing around and didn't mean anything by it - after all, you did use the XD symbol. If that's the case, then I apologize. Sometimes it's hard to determine motive from text.

Answering the first half of this quote because the format is really inconvenient: Yeah, and the worst thing is when you resign a game and they start bitching and moaning about “quitters” and “learning some perseverance”. As for why I got salty at this thread: Threads like this can easily be followed up by “and this is why you should never resign”.  Well, I will resign whenever I want to, because my parents almost ripped my chess life apart because I resigned a scholastic game down a piece in the opening when I was about 1100 strength.

I’m truly sorry for snapping at the wrong person on the wrong thread. I’m just absolutely sick and tired of all the BS around resignation.

No it's cool I understand.

Never mind that Black gets two bishops, two pawns and a decisive attack for it.

But all those pieces are nothing compared to the queen. The queen can take each of them one by one, the end result being the same as not having any of them at all. It is a bad habit to put down others for minor inaccuracies that matter very little. Here is an example for illustration:

Overall, it is truly impressive that LosingAndLearning was able to outplay his opponent despite lacking the most powerful piece in the game. I congratulate him on this spectacular win.

Not the greatest example ever. Put the bishops on better squares (ex. b3 and c3) and it's a dead draw. Black also has at least one check which he could utilize before even reaching this position.

Showing your obsession with the irrelevant once again. An example has been provided, and whether or not it is the best possible does really not matter.

CheesyPuns

Did you/he offer a takeback (i think you can do that on lichess?!) most of the time on FICS (i used to play on there) if you just tell thm that you mouseslipped they'll accept a takeback and are really nice about it

also to add my own "comeback" moment, I played in a classical tournament last weekend and in the first round blundered a whole bishop for a pawn and my opponent had around 30 miinutes left with a 5 second delay, I managed to create connected passed pawns in the endgame and drew because he used too much time and offered a draw because he was scared...

(last part of game not notated and forgotten as he was under 5 minutes and i thought i might actually be able to save the game...)

CheesyPuns

I also managed to draw GM Alonso Zapata (yes the guy who beat anand in 6(!) moves!!!) while i was +6..... i'm planning to blog about that...

@LosingAndLearning81

Nice comeback! I liked how you tempted the opponent to neglect his development (thinking that he is a queen up and totally safe) and grab pawns; this way, you had good chances to attack his king and cause problems for him (even though he was still objectively winning). (You don't necessarily need a queen to pressure his king. Two rooks and a few pieces can do the trick.)

I looked at the game and while kudos goes to him for persevering and not quitting. His opponent should have castled instead of the ill advised pawn grabs which made the game more difficult than it had to be. Don't get greedy and always be willing to give back material if you have to when you're up are chess principles I try to stick to.
