here's a game that i recently played on here. after the third move i realized that my opponent was playing a very different opening sequence (at least imho). therefore, i instantly clicked on his name to look at some of the other games he was currently playing. my hunch was correct as i quickly noticed that in practically all his current games he was making the same opening sequence. with this info in mind, i completely changed my strategy. just out of curiousity, do people consider this cheating or at the very least not proper, or is it just good strategy? also, any comments on the game are greatly welcome and appreciated.

Good game. I think it's good strategy.

Definitely not cheating.  All you did was learn your opponent.  In life, war, love, and just about any other arena I can think of, learning your opponent is considered a very wise thing to do - possibly even negligent not to.

Very interesting game to look at.  Thanks for sharing.

Well done, you made some nice moves and made some very tactically astute comments.  You did miss a nice mate in two though:

35.Nf5+! Kh7 (forced)

36.Qg7#

Remove the white bishop, allowing the black king to go to h5 and you still have mate in two because:

35.Nf5+! Kh5

36.Qh4# (as the black pawn prevents the King's escape.)

Also:

There is nothing wrong with studying your opponent's games.

thanks for the comments. yes, my end game is not very strong. i feel like i miss a decent amount of potential mates. it's something that i am still working on.

Move 19 for black, he should exchange twice on e3, and then play ...Bxf4 -- in order to try to recoup the material he blundered with ...Ng4
