computer analysis incorrect

Hi,

I had one of my games analysed (non premium computer) and the verdict about certain moves was that they where innacuracies - I completely disagree with some of the refutations and in fact I find some of the lines almost rude ... The so called innacuracies have been proven to be sound - I tested them using Houdini 1.5 as both sides. I think in these <25 move checkmate lines the computer should say "well done" or "kudo's to you".

thanks

It doesn't surprise me. The computer (for lower level members, at least) seems a bit quirky. More than a few times, I have been driving home a win and it's telling me how long lines of vague moves lead to a slight advantage.

Thanks. I like the AI, I think some of the moves show a sense of humor at least, however its funny that one of the first "better" lines is actually far worse than the position reached in the game (with analysis from Houdini playing as both sides).

I had one analysis where after a certain therotical , the position is "roughly equal" However, in that line, my opponent's rook would have pinned my queen!

Could be that the non-premium computer is a hobbled version of an inherently stronger program, and it is difficult to make a program weaker than its natural strength without making it quirky.

You see this in action when a program is tuned to play at a certain rating. It will play way better than a human of that strength at some times and in some respects but make crazy, almost random moves at other times.

Should say I'm just speculating this is what the deal is.

At any rate I would say that anyone with a decent engine at their disposal ( and there are free engines that are way better than decent and free interfaces for them to boot) has no good reason to use the comp analysis here - especially that non-premium crap.

The non-premium computer has told me, more than once, that it likes long drawn-out mates instead of my shorter ones. I think it likes to play head games, and thinks we all should as well.
