might be against Bd6 and forcing exchange.. white can Bg3 retreat, but after Bxg3 hxg3 and there would be a long term weakness on h file. after h3 white has Bh2 retreat option, without disrupting his pawn structures. thats my take from the first look
Curious h3!? reasoning?

When I was analyzing this game of mine, this was a variation which came up. Of course, Rc1 and Qc2 were good alternatives, but Stockfish recommended this curious h3!? move. I'd like some help interpreting its meaning.
I don't really care about a few centi-pawns on whether or not this move is "best", but what I care about is why is this move even a candidate move (and engine approved no less!).
h3 doesn't appear to be creating a luft for the Bishop to retreat to h2 (no threats like ...Nh5 in sight to warrant that) and I don't see h3 securing much kingside space. It also isn't supporting an outpost and I also don't see the importance of controlling the g4 square with this pawn.
There must be some "secret" behind this move, but what is the purpose of h3 here? I ran a few engine variations, but couldn't decipher the positive significance of this pawn move.
could be to potentially give the bishop a safer hiding spot if black ever plays g5, and g4 could potentially be possible (although im not sure how good it would be here)

looks like h3 to allow the B to retreat to h2 if Black advances to g5. Black has a lot of space, and the computer probably wants to keep the DSB on the board, and on an active diagonal.
That being said, I would have been looking at the c-file myself.

Are you serious? My guy most people here dont even know what you are talking about. Like commenting that here is one thing, but its another thing when you advertise that on a site where its so unlikely anyone will actually go for it.

That's pretty disgusting though, I would hope chess.com would delete the account or at least try to monitor it, it's been around since 2020.

Oh, @orphangenerator is just quoting, not actually posting it.
What do you mean 2020?
look at the names of the songs in order of how i said it

Guys... it's a bot... they post this so that the text is picked up by google web crawler and shows up in search engines. They're not posting it for us to read, and they're not going to read what you say to them.
If chess.com doesn't remove it quickly, then someone who googles for [the removed spam] will have that phone number pop up in their search results. Then they might dial it and get scammed, or whatever the idea is.
Chess.com is sure quick to act when somebody is saying something controversial (like when someone defends a non liberal viewpoint or says something about the site that could stir up trouble) or when one is hurting someones feelings, but when people like these post they take their sweet time or dont even bat an eye.
Sad honestly,

Really?
I've insulted the site and @erik plenty of times, and as far as I know those posts were NEVER taken down. I've seen similar from others as well, also never taken down. After a few years there was a dumb mod who decided to lock one of Al's topics complaining about the site, but that took years, and the mod was dumb so...
Similarly, non-liberal view points are all over off topic and are almost never taken down. Maybe because homeschooled chrisitian kids aren't allowed on most sites, and their parents accidentally allow them on chess.com which is pseudo social media... so there is a strangely high concentration of them. But anyway, they aren't censored.
And finally, these spam accounts are removed as soon as they're discovered. Mods are unpaid volunteers. Chess.com doesn't put any effort into making the forums nice (in terms of spending money on it) but I'd be shocked if these posts were still up 24 hours from when they were posted. This is exponentially faster than the removal of anything else you complained about (conservative views or criticizing the site).
i was honestly just speaking from experience, once i debated abortion- muted. Once i debated LGBTQ being taught- muted. etc...

i most commonly got muted for offending people who argue with their feelings rather than rationally, but this site is based in cali so its not big surprised

You must have said some horrendous s**t to be muted . Maybe you just mean the comments were removed.
One of the off topic kids was posting some anti-gay stuff. Their topic was removed but they weren't muted. I thought that was pretty reasonable.
it was months ago i dont recall the forum, but alot of it was me using logic and statistics and them crying about how she felt about it and that im a ¨biggot¨ because i disagreed with her. I asked why and she told me that im too dumb to see it. This taught me to ignore those people.

I mean, you're a member of the ideas room so... what can I even say
i dont interact there often but if imma be honest the one guy who belives in all the conspiracy theory and is trying to convince everyone that its correct is giving it a bad reputation.
other then that its a nice spot to speak freely on subjects without being muted, banned, or harassed.

Maybe trading the b for n on b8 or going to e5 doubles the pawn is the reason for a retreat square on h2

Oh that makes more sense. It was the year the account was made, so I was surprised it was 4 years old.

I am curious why a high concentration of Christian kids as you say would contribute to that, let alone why you assume they're kids in the first place @llama_I

h3 here is good, very similar to the quiet move h3 in some Queen's Gambit Exchange variation Carlsbad games (with 4 cxd5 exd5 played). In your position, White takes control of g4, so a Black piece can't land there, and secures a possible retreat for the Bf4, as well as making the undermining thrust possible, g2-g4 after some preparation. The exact same idea (taking control of g4, but in this system, to deny the Bishop on c8 any decent squares) is sometimes played in the aforementioned QGD exchange variation after White has placed a knight on e5 and then secured it with f2-f4 and sometimes following up with g2-g4 later after preparation. (this may have been known as the "Pillsbury" attack or something. Won some nice kingside attack lines with this kind of system.

This is probably because it is against chess.com's tos to discuss "religious or political debate"
https://support.chess.com/article/474-what-are-the-sites-policies
Certain topics just tend to become controversial and attract trolls, so it is better to keep those topics in the appropriate clubs. Here are some you may want to check out:

There may be other clubs too. This was just my chess.com club search, so this is just what I found first.
chess.com Staff/Mods don't mute/ban because they disagree with an opinion; they simply enforce chess.com's tos when those rules are not followed.
h3 is to avoid black from trading off Bf4 with ...g5 Be5 Nd7
