Hello  everybody. I recenly lost this game, which i think i should have won.

Considering that my rating was more or less 300 points lower than my opponent, i think that i played quite decently. I would like you to help me understand my mistakes,  i´m sure there are plenty of them. Thanks in advance.

I see one major mistake, asyou probably noticed yourself, was Qe6..

Further a pretty decent game indeed. Surely for your rating you did well, and lost because of some tactical mistake.. But further, keep on the good work and you might consider to train some tactics..

i have always thought that moving the a and h pawns is a good idea to avoid the pin on the knight. I will take that into account for my next games

Hey dude.

Two things I noticed---too many unnecessary checks with your queen.  Use those moves to set up a real attack, one that sticks.  Or, in this games case, to take free material.

Spend a few moves to set up an attack to make sure it causes damage. Get more men on it.

You did a good job assessing his threat on the kingside in the beginning of the game.  I thought actually that you were in trouble, because he was aiming all his pieces at your king, but that attack didn't really cause you very much trouble, so development was the better option.

No that's a very common misconception from inexperienced players. There are a few exceptions (Sicilian Najdorf for example), but usually those moves just waste time. Remember you should want to as IM Jeremy Silman puts it "be pushing your own objective" as much as possible. So try not to play passive moves which do nothing to further your own plans. Particularly not just to prevent what will usually be just normal developing moves from your opponent (the pins can usually be broken by B-K2/Q2 anyway and so won't be problematic).

If you notice both you and your opponent were able to bust up each others castles by targeting the moved h pawns. So in addition to being a waste as mentioned above it also weakens the structure of the castle.

Did you consider 5...Ne4, 6Ne4 d5 7 Bd5 Qd5? It Would give you good central control, space (not so cramped as in the game ) and the bishop pair. It´s a common tactic in these symetrical king pawn games.Suerte en nuestra partida.
