Efficient way to strenghten my defence?

how did the rook in front of the king? doesn't look very safe. the black g-pawn is pushed as if to fianchetto the bishop, but it's stuck in front of the queen stopping the other bishop from coming out.

only good point for black is that white's position seems to have most of the same weaknesses... was this position from an actual game? it doesn't look like it.

pushing the wing pawns to bring the rooks out won't work in the opening unless the centre is congested (as the opposition can throw out a king or queen's pawn out and use the bishop to control the a/h 3/6 square). if you like to get the rooks active early maybe look at some of the gambit lines that sacrifice wing pawns to open the files (Benko gambit against d4 or the Chatard-Alekhine attack against the French, there are definitely others, but none spring to mind).

Just keep your rooks on the back rank in the opening. They work as well from a distance as from up close, except they're much less vulnerable when they're far away. Don't develop them via h4/Rh3 and stuff like that.
