Evanston 3x3 Round 1

Today I played in the Evanston 3x3 chess tournament.  I had a pretty good day, finishing with 2/3 points.  Here is my game from the first round.  The last 2 rounds will each be in separate post, making analysis easier.  That being said,  any analysis or advice you can offer on any of the games would be greatly appreciated happy.png

I got the black pieces the first round.  I am still learning the Dzindi Indian Defense against 1. d4, so I started off the game intending to go into that line.  However, my opponent played something different, and I wound up in what I think is called a pterodactyl, or something very similar.

Off to a good start for the day.

Is the tournament three games ?

Yes.  I put them separate to make commenting on a specific game easier.

Okay. Wanted to know that prior to remarking, the last thing you need is bitchy comments mid-tournament.
I think I have seen your interest in Dzindi Indian (... f5 !?) on these forums before.
I know for a fact I would play 4. e3 or maybe 4. Nf3
White's game is a bust by move 6. I imagine some player's have tried 6. Qd4 ( defending the pawns and attacking the rook ) but of course that fails to ... Nf6 and ... Nc6 where the queen's knight move means that white's Bg5 is hopeless.
It is pretty neat to have a win by move 4.
As you get stronger and the players you meet get stronger these tricks dry up but sometimes you do get the chance to transpose into favourable positions of known openings, such as the Benoni or King's Indian. I remember when the Benko Gambit was considered crazy, so of course I choose to remain mute about the Dzinidi.

Yeah I'm definitely going to need to study these variations more if I'm going to keep using g6.  I think dxc5 is a decent line for white if played correctly.

Well game 2 in terms of the opening is more interesting. Qd3 looks suspect. I am thinking more Bf4 (two bishops but no where to put them) with the idea of bottling black up on the queenside.
Not that I am any where near down to cases what with black looking to attack the static c3 and c4 pawns with knights and queen.

An interesting possibility was 19...Qf2, since that threatens ...Qxf2+, and since White's queen is hanging at b2, White can't protect f2 via 20. Be1. But your 19th move was very good, in any case. Nice game, especially the endgame.

I agree.  Qe2 would have been good.
