9...Nxd3 9... b6 was a wasted move as there is no need to defend the bishop for this tactic to work.
your opponent had 20. Nxf6 Qxf6 Qc2 where he is picking up one of his pawns back

maybe we will...i'll try to remember to ask the coach l8r. and Nxd3 seems like a similar idea to my 10th move Nxc2 in the sense that it puts him in check and threatens to take the bishop. I do realize (and did realize a move later) that b6 was not the best move as it isnt necessary and gets rid of a possible escape route for my bishop. Also, why not 9...Nxc2...it seems just as strong as Nxd3.
the difference is that after Nxc2 Qxc2 the position is the exact same as Nxd3 cxd3 except with the queen on c2 instead of d1. c2 is a better square because it helps put pressure on e4 and also because the c file is a half open file that white can use to put pressure on black's c pawn
I've known how to play chess for a while, but only decided this summer that i was ok and decided to join the chess team at school (i already know most of the people on it). I wasnt great when i started, but i looked up some openings and techniques and such, and was becoming good (not great, but good considering where i started).
Yesterday was the team's first match, and i played board 6 of 8 first round and 5 of 8 second round. The first round i was black, i'm not gonna post it cuz my opponent played a weird opening (1. b3 e5 2. d3 d5 3. c4) and hung a rook. The second round was closer, and i won but i was wondering if i maybe missed anything. Here's the game:
